  1. The Town of Leesburg is welcoming applications for the 2023 Independence Day Parade, set to commence on Jul. 4 at 10 a.m. from Ida Lee Park. This year's event will include a special prelude performance by the American Originals, and participants will vie for the Patriot Cup Competition award, sponsored by the Loudoun Now newspaper.   2. Dr. Aaron Spence, current superintendent of Virginia Beach City Public Schools, has been chosen by the Loudoun County School Board as the new superintendent of Loudoun County Public Schools. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Spence has led a school district of over 65,000 students since 2014 and was named Virginia Superintendent of the Year in 2018. Dr. Spence is set to move to Loudoun County in the near future, with Dr. Daniel Smith serving as acting superintendent until then. (Loudoun County Public Schools)
  3. An animal rescue organization in western Loudoun County, named Luck of the Irish Animal Rescue, is under scrutiny after three of its employees were charged with animal cruelty. The charges resulted from a months-long investigation which began in February, revealing substandard living conditions for 42 animals housed on the premises. Throughout the investigation, 102 animals, including dogs, cats, and rabbits, were relocated to county animal services, with most already rehomed. (WTOP)
