Twenty-four Veterans of United States Military Services were honored at Ashleigh at Lansdown Senior Living Facility on Veterans Day by two men from the Sgt Maj John Champe (SMJC) Chapter, Virginia SAR. There were four (4) veterans of the United States Army, nine (9) veterans of the United States Navy, two (2) veterans of the United States Marine Corps, and nine (9) veterans of the United States Air Force. One veteran served in the Korean War. A presentation “What is a Veteran” was given by SMJC Chapter President Barry Schwoerer. Each veteran was given a personalized Certificate of Appreciation, a United States Veteran pin, and a small United States flag. Chapter Compatriot Steve Van Deusen opened the event by leading the Pledge of Allegiance and assisted with presenting certificates, pins and flags. Mr. Schwoerer was dressed in the Revolutionary War regimental uniform of a Continental army soldier. Mr. Van Deusen was dressed as a Revolutionary War militia soldier wearing a hunting shirt typical of what a Loudoun County Militiaman would have worn.
