Local SAR Chapter Honors Veterans at Dulles International Airport

One-Hundred and Thirteen Veterans arrived on August 20, 2025 to tour Veteran Monuments in Washington DC

One-Hundred and thirteen veterans representing four military services, arrived at Dulles International Airport on Wednesday on an accompanied, all expenses tour of Veteran memorials in the Washington DC Captial region. Four veterans served in the Korean War while 109 served in the Vietnam War. Eighty-nine Veterans were awarded individual service medals for bravery or combat action. There were 14 veterans of the United States Air Force, 70 Veterans of the United States Army, 11 Veterans of the United States Marine Corps, and 18 veterans of the United States Navy. The oldest veteran was 93 years young.

Honor Flights thanks veterans for their service and sacrifices while in service to the United States. They are accompanied by a care giver on flights from origin, in this case Chicago, accompanied by a care giver on a bus from Dulles on their tour, and then accompanied back to Chicago. In addition, a medical professional(s) accompany veterans on thier tour. Approximately 200 volunteers great the veterans when the arrive at the terminal, present colors and salute them as they pass to their buses, and salute them again when the buses depart the terminal.
