Local SAR Chapter Participated in Marking a SAR members grave in Winchester

Sgt maj John Champe President was at Historic Mt. Hebron Cemetery to remember SAR Member Lewis Ewing

On Saturday, August 2, Mt Hebron Cemetery in Winchester was the location of a ceremony dedicating a Sons of the American Revolution member marker for Lewis M. Ewing, member of the Colonel James Wood II Chapter. The ceremony was attended by a large number of family, friends and members of various chapters of the Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).

Placing a member marker at the grave of deceased members of SAR is a way to let future visitors know Mr. Ewing had an ancestor who provided Patriotic Service in the American Revolution. It is also a means of honoring the member.

Sgt Maj John Champe President Barry Schwoerer represented the Loudoun County Chapter by presenting a wreath honoring Mr. Ewing, participating as a sentry beside a field of Chapter flags, and by firing a three-shot black powder flintlock volley in honor of Mr. Ewing. Virginia SAR leadership was represented by Darin Schmidt, 1st Vice President of the Virginia Society SAR.
