Local SAR Chapter participates in Navy-USMC 250 Parade in Philadelphia

The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter Float participated in the National 250th Anniversary parade of the Navy & USMC held in Philadelphia 13 OCT

A Nor'easter producing gusty winds and intermittent rain did not prevent the Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter Virginia SAR from participating in the National parade celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. Graphics commemorating the event were produced by Chapter Compatriot Warner Workman, float owner. Vietnam War Veteran Gunnery Sergeant Mark Sink United States Marine Corps, wore his Marine Corps dress blue uniform in honor of the Marine Corps 250th birthday. Vietnam War Veteran Captain Barry Schwoerer, United States Navy (Retired) wore his dress blue uniform in honor of the Navy's 250th birthday. Mr. Sink is Vice President of the Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter; Mr. Schwoerer is President of the chapter. Warner Workman float designer and owner drove the tow vehicle wearing typical militia attire from Virginia early in the Revolutionary War.

The Sgt Maj John Champe Compatriots were joined by Brett Osborn from the Colonel James Wood II Chapter, Virginia SAR. Mr. Osborn is National SAR Safety Officer and Virginia Society SAR Color Guard Commander. The Virginia SAR team were joined by two compatriots from the Pennsylvania Society SAR.

The United States Navy was created on October 13, 1775 and the United States Marine Corps on November 10, 1775.
