- The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is investigating threats against residents who spoke at school board meetings. It has been revealed that the Facebook group called the Loudoun Love Warriors, which targeted local small businesses in the past, is now involved in making threats against parents. The owners of Parallel Wine and Whiskey Bar and Bistro, targeted by the group in 2020, have spoken out about the impact it had on their business and their lives, calling for accountability and condemning the group's actions. - The Leesburg Town Council is considering significant changes to parking regulations and management in the historic district. During a recent work session, they reviewed nine potential projects to address concerns about downtown parking shortage and explored various strategies. Some of the proposed changes include increasing hourly parking charges, leasing private parking lots, and examining the feasibility of creating a parking authority. The council took straw votes on these options and expects more detailed staff reports on the approved strategies in the future. (Loudon Now)
- The Town of Leesburg in Virginia will host its annual Memorial Day Observance on May 29 at 10:00 a.m. The distinguished guest speaker will be U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Dr. Robert C. From my notebook:
- Smoke from wildfires in Canada has caused hazy skies and stunning sunrises and sunsets in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. The hazy conditions were first reported on May 10 by the National Weather Service, attributing them to smoke from the Canadian wildfires traveling to the region. While air quality remains moderate for fine particle pollution, sensitive individuals are advised to limit outdoor activities; conditions are expected to improve by Thursday. (MSN)
- In need of Memorial Weekend plans? There will be various events scheduled in the region, including a summer concert series, a music festival to benefit cancer, the Arlington National Cemetery Memorial Day ceremony, and the Rolling to Remember Rally, which raises awareness about veteran suicide.
