The Loudoun Ballet Performing Arts Company's 2021-2022 season will include performances of The Nutcracker, The Little Mermaid, and more.

LEESBURG, VA — Ballet performances of "The Nutcracker" and "The Little Mermaid" are coming to Loudoun County this winter and next spring respectively, courtesy of the Loudoun Ballet Performing Arts Company. The company announced their schedule for the 2021-2022 season on Monday.
The upcoming season is the company's fifth since they opened their doors in 2017. The Loudoun Ballet Performing Arts Company features dancers from Loudoun County who are between 8 and 19 years old. The non-profit organization intends to " provide a positive and uplifting experience for dancers through the creation of high-quality ballet performances that enrich the community," according to their mission statement.
The organization's fifth season will begin with an original ballet on Oct. 9 and 10. "Deep in the Forest" is written and directed by Maureen Miller, the company's artistic director.

"The ballet was inspired by Miller’s fascination with fairy folklore as a child and tells the story of a fairy princess who lives in an enchanted forest," the Loudoun Ballet Performing Arts Company said in a news release. "This ballet promises to transport audiences into the magical world of a child’s imagination through stunning costumes, enchanting music and choreography and is a subtle reminder to never judge a book by its cover."
Performances will be held at Loudoun County High School in Leesburg. Tickets are available for purchase now.

The company's second ballet of the season is a full-length performance of "The Nutcracker" in December. The organization hinted at some surprises in the performance, including a reimagined scene and the return of professional male guest dancers.
The final ballet of the season will be "The Little Mermaid" in Spring 2022. The ballet will feature many of the characters that audiences know and love from the classic film and fairy tale.
Cherie Maroni is the founder and executive producer of the Loudoun Ballet Performing Arts Company.
