Loudoun County Trick-Or-Treat 2023: When To Get Candy, View Parade

Expect little ghouls and goblins wandering their neighborhoods for candy on the night of trick-or-treat.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Trick-or-treating doesn't have a set time in many Northern Virginia communities, which means you can expect little ghosts and ghouls to show up to your doorstep on the evening of Halloween.

That applies to Loudoun County, where families typically trick-or-treat on Halloween. This year, Halloween falls on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

If you live within a homeowners association or apartment complex, check with them on trick-or-treat times, as they may be different from Oct. 31.

  • Parents and children should sidewalks when possible, look both ways before crossing the street, and cross at crosswalks when available.
  • Drivers should slow down, especially through neighborhoods, turn on headlights early in the day, and anticipate possible additional pedestrian traffic in the evening.
  • Parents make sure costumes are visible either with light colors or reflective tape or stickers, and that children can clearly see out of any masks and/or head coverings. Have kids carry glow sticks and/or flashlights to help them see and be seen by others.
  • Only trick or treat at well-lit houses, and remain on porches or front steps rather than entering homes.
  • Children under the age of 12 should not trick or treat alone without an adult. If kids are mature enough to be out without adult supervision, remind them to stick to familiar areas and trick or treat in groups.
  • Always have an adult inspect children’s candy before consumption.
