LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — The Loudoun County School Board has hired an Arizona-based recruiting firm to lead their search for a new superintendent. The firm, GR Recruiting, will lead a national search based on feedback from community members.

The school board said it expects a new superintendent to be in place before the start of the 2023-2024 school year.

Daniel Smith is currently serving as an interim superintendent for the Loudoun County school system. He was promoted after the previous superintendent, Scott Ziegler, was fired in December.

“Hiring a new leader to execute a vision of excellence for all students is a critical responsibility of the School Board,” Board Chair Ian Serotkin said in a news release.. “The Board understands that recruiting and retaining an experienced, long-term leader is essential to student success and we are committed to gathering input and insights from our community throughout the process.”

The school system plans to publish a survey to allow community members to provide input about what factors are important to them for a potential superintendent.

The school board said a new superintendent could be announced in the spring with a potential start date of July 1, 2023.

Future updates about the superintendent search will be published on the school system's website.
