LTEs: LaRock Supporters Question May's Integrity

A series of letters recently came to Patch in support of David LaRock in the 33rd House of Delegates District in the June 11 primary.

Dear Editor,

As a 19-year old Loudoun County resident, I support Mr. Dave LaRock, candidate for the 33rd District for reasons that will resonate with other Loudoun voters. Although we are not neighbors, I know Mr. LaRock and have observed that he lives the values he stands for. He cares for this community and passionately desires to see Loudoun remain a safe, stable place to raise families and operate businesses. I’ve seen him and his wife picking up trash on back roads and watched his involvement with community sports. He has moral courage and unshakeable honesty. That’s why he is not afraid to candidly confront Mr. Joe May’s concessions on tax hikes or challenge the Dulles Toll Road, which will milk Loudoun taxpayers while enriching commercial developers. Joe May refuses to debate LaRock because he knows that if he was confronted about his voting record, he would lose voter support. Why? Because Joe May votes for higher taxes, abortions and gun control (The National Rifle Association gives Mr. May a “C” rating.). While Joe May runs as a Republican, his record reveals he is not representing the majority of 33rd District voters. After 20 years in office, he has become a career politician, not a public servant. He is willing to make compromises in order to stay in office for as long as he can.

Unlike Joe May, Dave LaRock is running for delegate out of conviction. He cares about the concerns of 33rd District – he demonstrated this when, at his own expense, he moved the “tax pig” around the county alerting Loudoun taxpayers to the coming tax hikes. If you are not aware of the issues facing our community, you owe it to yourself to get informed. A vote for Joe May is a vote for “business as usual” which means more taxes. As a brand new taxpayer, that prospect concerns me.

Every Loudoun voter needs to vote on June 11. When I worked at the polls in November, the first presidential election I was eligible to vote in, I was disappointed at the meager turn out. For me, the privilege of voting felt like an honor, and casting my first ballot was exciting. It made me appreciate America even more. So, get out there on June 11! Do one thing you will never regret: Vote for LaRock.

To the editor:

As we experience the confusion and demoralization created in Washington, DC, by a federal bureaucracy and executive incapable of telling the truth, it is indeed frightening that here in western Loudoun County we are seeing elected officials lying just like the pack inside the Beltway.

I am referring to Virginia State [General] Assembly Delegate Joe May, who has resorted mudslinging, obfuscation and downright lying in an increasingly desperate bid to hold on to his seat in the 33rd District.

May is simply lying when he says that he is pro-life. His record shows he is not. The National Association for the Reform of the Abortion Laws (Margaret Sanger’s outfit) thinks he is the cat’s meow.

In 1993, when my wife ran for the State Assembly as an independent candidate against Joe May, my job (among others) was to herd our children around to her many campaign events. She asked him in every single venue: “Do you support abortion?” Mr. May’s answer, word for word, was that “abortion is a matter between a woman and her doctor.” He repeated this position at community meetings, press conferences, debates, and in discussions with high school students throughout the campaign. Virginians have aborted more than five million babies since Joe May took office, and it is more than probable that some of the high school students May spoke to in 1993 have themselves lost a precious child to abortion and now live with daily regret. At the very least, every student who heard him endorse abortion knows someone – a sister, a mother, a friend – who has sacrificed a child to the secular sacrament of abortion.

Because the 33rd District is moving heavily in favor of his challenger Dave LaRock, May now brings in his high-paid inside-the-Beltway political consultants. The USPS has clogged our mailboxes with their glossy sensationalist four-page pamphlets to spread the lie that LaRock has tangled with the law. The facts are these: when Loudoun officials did not respond to citizen requests to have an obscene picture of a partially naked woman advertising a West Virginia porn shop removed from the roadway at Rt. 704 and Rt. 9, Dave LaRock took it down (read story). If you were driving your elementary school children past it every day, wouldn’t you? Perhaps not, if you were Joe May, who seems to dismiss the importance of defending school children from pornography just as easily as he dismisses the importance of defending unborn babies in the womb.

It is going to take a legion of citizen activists to reverse the mess that the Beltway crowd has created across our country. Let’s start here in the 33rd district by electing Dave LaRock to represent us in Richmond.

Dear Editor,

I voted for Joe May in the past, but this year I paid more attention to the postcards, phone calls and door knocks we received, since Joe hasn't had any real competition in a while.

I looked at Joe May’s website and voting record and decided he is hardly a “conservative” let alone a “Republican” as he really votes like a squishy liberal. See for yourself: http://bit.ly/18DYQgZ.

With just a few more days left, until we go the polls and decide the fate of the 33rd district, it's time you get serious about the facts.

Tax increases are bad news and Joe May has voted with liberal Democrats for every major tax increase since 1993.

Earlier this year, May even voted for the $6 billion tax increase. Virginia has never passed a tax increase of this magnitude before. Supposedly, it will help alleviate traffic woes in Virginia, but the way that the money will be allocated and utilized based on the bill, says the opposite. In fact, the only one benefiting from the increase will be the transportation lobbyists, transit unions, developers and construction industry giants. On the other hand, motorists, taxpayers, and citizens will be hit hard by the plethora of taxes that will do nothing to help fix the problems local drivers face every day.

Abortions, like pregnancies, are very black and white issues. You are either for them or not and since 1993, Joe May says he is “Pro-Life” but voted with the liberal Democrats to block the “Choose Life” license plate and told the Washington Post he supports first-trimester abortions.

And The National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) gave Joe May a 75% pro-abortion rating and the president of The Family Foundation wrote asking people to contact Joe May because he voted wrong on Pro-Life bills. Hmm, how does that add up to “Pro-Life”?

Obama and his administration are doing everything to get national control of our guns and ammunition. And Joe May sided with the gun control activists to maintain Virginia’s “one-gun-a-month” law and repeatedly backed restrictive gun control legislation. The NRA rated Joe May C-, which is the worst of any Virginia Republican.

Joe May’s actions speak louder than his words and are driving many people I know away from Joe May.

It’s time for a change.

Dave LaRock has earned my trust in the issues that are important to me. He has been a tireless advocate for lower taxes, sensible transportation spending, and smaller, more effective government. I know he is absolutely 100 percent committed to protecting the unborn and our constitutional rights. And while a substantial chunk of our elected officials have practically declared war on the Second Amendment, I know Dave will stand firm in defending our right to bear arms.
