Purcellville Shooting Leaves Man With Life-Threatening Injuries: Cops

Authorities believe a man accidentally shot himself in the leg in Purcellville on Saturday, causing life-threatening injuries.

PURCELLVILLE, VA — A man suffered serious injuries in a shooting in Purcellville on Saturday night, the Purcellville Police Department said.

Authorities have not identified the man by name or age. The police department said his injuries were life-threatening.

No other injuries were reported in the shooting.

The shooting occurred around 11:20 p.m. on Saturday in the 600 block of Main Street, according to the police report. Authorities described the incident as "a possible accidental, self-inflicted shooting."

Purcellville police officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg when they arrived on scene. The officers provided first aid until the victim could be taken to an area hospital.

"There is currently no threat to the public," the police department wrote on Facebook. "The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation on this incident."
