SAR Wounded Warrior Coin presented to 102 year old WWII Veteran

Martinsburg WV Veterans Parade Grand Marshal Honored

Corporal Wilber “Jack” Meyer served in the United States Army where he was in the Battle of the Bulge and the campaign to push the German Army out of Belgium, France and finally to surrender in Germany. He served in Company B, 692nd Tank Destroyer Battalion, 104th and 42nd Infantry Division. Mr. Meyer was Grand Marshall at the Martinsburg, WV Veterans parade held on November 8, 2025. He opened the parade by singing the National Anthem. Mr. Meyer recently turned 102 years old and remarked he is the last of his Company remaining alive.

Barry Schwoerer President of the Loudoun County based Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter, Virginia Society SAR presented Mr. Meyer the Sons of the American Revolution Wounded Warrior coin and certificate. The presentation was made in front of the announcers booth at the start of the parade in downtown Martinsburg. The booth was under a massive American flag flown from two ladders extended from Martinsburg Fire Department Ladder trucks.

The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter entered a float in the Martinsburg Veterans parade. The float was decorated with graphics commemorating the 250th birthdays of the United States Navy (October 13, 1775) and the United States Marine Corps (November 10, 1775).
