Suspect Charged After Fleeing From Leesburg Police In October: Cops

Authorities have charged a suspect who was involved in a road rage related hit and run before fleeing from police in Leesburg in October.

LEESBURG, VA — A grand jury has indicted a suspect accused of fleeing from police after a road rage and hit and run incident in Leesburg in October, the town's police department announced.

On Tuesday, authorities said 27-year-old Ricardo Avilez-Blanco was charged with eluding, attempted malicious wounding, hit and run causing injury, destruction of property, assault, and reckless driving.

Avilez-Blanco is currently in Arizona, where he was arrested in an unrelated incident, the Leesburg Police Department said. The Loudoun County prosecutor's office is working to have him extradited to Virginia to face his charges.

Around 4 p.m. on Oct. 14, authorities said a white 2016 Chevrolet Camaro was involved in a "road rage and felony hit-and-run incident" near Heritage High School in Leesburg.

In a news release, police officials said officers tried to stop the driver for speeding, but he fled on East Market Street. Authorities tried to stop him again Heritage High School, but he sped away from police officers a second time.

In both instances, officers chose not to chase the driver "in consideration of public safety," the police department said.

Authorities located the Camaro abandoned in a parking lot on Fieldstone Drive NE at 1 a.m. on Oct. 15. The vehicle was processed as evidence.
