Authorities are investigating an online threat that mentioned Cool Spring Elementary School in Leesburg.

LEESBURG, VA — A threat in an online chat mentioned Cool Spring Elementary School, the Leesburg Police Department reported on Monday. The police department is still investigating the threat, but authorities do not believe there is any danger to students.

There will be additional police patrols throughout the week at the school out of an abundance of caution, the police department said.

The threat is being investigated by Cool Spring Elementary's school resource officer alongside the Leesburg Department's Criminal Investigation Section and Loudoun County Public Schools.

Authorities did not provide any further information about the nature of the threat, where it originated, or who was responsible.

In a news release on Monday morning, the police department urged the community to remain vigilant.
