Two Injured in Church Roof Collapse

Two construction workers were injured in a roof collapse Monday at the Evergreen Church.

According to a release from Loudoun County Fire and Rescue, the county's Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call around 12:30 p.m. for a structure collapse in the 19600 block of Evergreen Mills Road.

Early calls said trusses on the roof of the church, which is under construction, had collapsed, sending construction workers off the structure and onto the ground below. 

When emergency personnel responded, they discovered two of the three workers on the roof at the time of the collapse had fallen between 30 and 40 feet to the ground, according to the release.

At this time, it's unclear what caused the trusses to collapse, officials said Monday afternoon.

One of the workers, who was "trapped momentarily beneath the trusses," was taken to Fairfax Hospital by helicopter, Loudoun County officials said.

The second was not trapped and taken to the Cornwall Campus of INOVA-Loudoun Hospital by ambulance, according to the release.

Neither of the workers' injuries are life-threatening, officials said.

The third worker was not injured in the accident.

The accident is being reviewed by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, according to the release.
