Weekender: Get a Crash Course on Chickens

Check out these events happening in Loudoun County this weekend.

Never seen a roller derby bout? This weekend is your chance. Some of the best skaters from around the region will join NOVA Roller Derby on July 27 for a free doubleheader at Michael and Son Sportsplex at Dulles.  The first bout is an all-female bout that will pit “The Pretty Princesses” against “The Evil Queens.” The second bout is co-ed and will have the “Super Heroes” battling it out against the “Super Villains. “  Both teams will be made up of a mix of NOVA Roller Derby skaters, D.C. RollergirlsFreedom BellesChesapeake Roller DerbyDominion Derby Girls, and more. Doors will open at 4:00 p.m.  at 21610 Atlantic Boulevard in Sterling, VA. The first whistle will be at 5:00 p.m.

Calvary Temple will host its 5th annual Gospel Movie Night on Friday night. This year's presentation will be the movie “Home Run” – the story of a pro ball player who finds hope for his substance abuse problems. This free event is open to the public.  Bring your own chairs and blankets for the lawn. There will be popcorn, drinks, s’mores around the campfire, live music and kids activities.  Grounds open at 7 p.m.; movie starts at dark.

The Sterling Playmakers present Bye Bye Birdie, opening this weekend. Get a crash course on chickens at the Willowsford Farm Stand on Saturday. Several representatives from the Willowsford Farm Professional Laying Team will be at the Farm Stand talking to CSA members and customers about the happy pastures their hens reside on at the farm. They will bring a farmer and a chicken handbook made by one of Willowsford’s own resident chicken enthusiasts. You can even see hens!
