What's Open, Closed For New Year's Day 2024 In Leesburg
In Loudoun County and the Leesburg area, the New Year's holiday changes schedules for government offices and other facilities.
LEESBURG, VA — Another year has come and gone. In Leesburg and the rest of Loudoun County, government facilities and offices will close to allow their workers an extra day off to start the year.
This year, New Year's Day falls on a Monday. Many government offices and other facilities will remain closed on Monday, Jan. 1 to recognize the occasion.
To help you plan, here's a roundup of what's open and what's closed for New Year's in our area:

- Loudoun County government offices: Closed on Monday, Jan. 1.
- Leesburg government offices: Closed on Monday, Jan. 1.
- Loudoun County courts: Closed on Monday, Jan. 1.
- Loudoun County libraries: Closed on Monday, Jan. 1.
- Loudoun County transit: No service on Monday, Jan. 1.
- Loudoun County Public Schools: Closed for winter break.
- Leesburg trash collection: There will be no trash collection on Monday, Jan. 1. On Jan. 2, trash collection will occur in northwest Leesburg. On Jan. 3, trash collection will be in northeast Leesburg inside the bypass. On Jan. 4, trash will be collected in northeast Leesburg outside the bypass. On Jan. 5, trash will be collected in southwest Leesburg. On Jan. 6, trash will be collected in southeast Leesburg.
- Post offices: Closed on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
- Metro: On New Year’s Eve on Sunday, Dec. 31, Metrorail will operate on Sunday schedule, with service starting at 7 a.m., but ending at a time to be determined after midnight. - DMV offices: Closed on Monday, Jan. 1.
