Wrapping Up Redskins Players at Tuscarora

“You ain’t got enough toilet paper!”

Well, it does take a lot of toilet paper to turn a 6-5, 325-pound offensive guard into a snowman. And maybe a 12-roll pack isn’t quite enough to cover Redskins guard Arie Kouandjio and three of his teammates, but it sure was fun trying.

Kouandjio was joined by linebacker Houston Bates, kicker Dustin Hopkins and defensive back Lee Hightower at Tuscarora High School on Monday, December 5th, for a meeting of the Bright Light Husky Buddies.

Bright Light Husky Buddies is an organization of students with special needs and their high school peers who gather weekly for social interaction and service. The group plays games, attends school athletic events, goes out to eat and participates in service projects, such as chaperoning an elementary school dance or caroling at a local nursing home.

The players arrived to cheers from the students and found several of them sporting their Redskins gear. The players posed for selfies and signed autographs before taking a break for reindeer cookies. After the snacks, they got down to the business at hand.

Students broke into teams of four to see which team could wrap their player in the three rolls of toilet paper the fastest. Kouandjio acknowledged that his size put him at a disadvantage and, sure enough, it was the kicker, Hopkins, who won the friendly competition.

After the game, the players picked up song sheets and helped the students practice singing “Jingle Bells” as they prepare for their upcoming caroling field trip.

Bright Light Husky Buddy Ana Gonzalez organized the visit. Her stepfather, Ben Kotwica, is the special teams’ coordinator for the Redskins.

Bright Light Husky Buddy sponsors include Jennifer Reed, Shawnda Saul and Carol Fletcher. Co-presidents of the organization are Carder Saul and Sabrina Caceras.
