Washington and Lee Announces November Community Grants (wlu.edu) — Nonprofits in Lexington and Rockbridge County just received over $28,000 in community grants from Washington and Lee University, with another funding round coming this spring. Local groups can still apply for the 2025–26 cycle before the March 20, 2026 deadline, with clear instructions and contacts provided for submissions.
   

2. Meet a Colleague: Paul Youngman (wlu.edu) — A longtime Washington and Lee faculty member shares that his dream home would be right here in Lexington underscoring his deep roots in the community. In a lighthearted Q&A, he talks about teaching German, his Army background, adventurous parachute jumps, and the books, shows, and music he loves.
   

3. Brandon Spalding Named ODAC and NCAA South Region Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year (wlu.edu) — Washington and Lee’s head men’s cross country coach, Brandon Spalding, who leads a program based in Lexington, has been named both ODAC and NCAA South Region Coach of the Year after a standout 2025 season. His Generals captured conference and regional titles and earned a program-best 20th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championship.
   

4. Governor Gives Christmas Gift To Cadets (thenews-gazette.com) — VMI cadets in Lexington got an early Christmas surprise when Gov. Glenn Youngkin used a halftime visit at Cameron Hall to grant amnesty for unserved duties and commitments. He celebrated his birthday in town, praised the Institute, and joined the Corps and team after the Keydets’ 86–70 win over Loyola.
