The 'Great Escape' at Laurel Hill Park on Sept. 15

Many changes have occurred at Laurel Hill Park since the former Lorton Reformatory closed in 2001. Before redevelopment of the area begins, the Fairfax County Park Authority is celebrating with  the “Great Escape” Prison to Park Festival, on Saturday, September 15, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

The Event, sponsored by Elm Street Development, costs $2 per person for admission. Elm Street and the Alexander Company and are developing the property for apartments and townhouse, retail and office buildings. 

Wagon tours ($10 apiece, free for kids under the age of four) will reveal the prison grounds, including the maximum security area. This could be your last chance to catch some Lorton history!
