Residents of Lorton's <a href="http://www.pulte.com/communities/va/lorton/spring-hill-condos/3039/index1.aspx#.UiDrF2Q6Vis" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Spring Hill Retirement Community</a> will commemorate the Sept. 11 attacks with a ribbon cutting for its new rain garden on Sept. 11, 2013. The rain garden, which includes native plantings, numerous basins and river birch trees is designed to prevent flooding, water pollution and land erosion. Construction began in April, and the project was partially funded by a grant from the <a href="http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/cex/nepp/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Fairfax County Neighborhood Enhancement Partnership Program</a>."We had 34 Spring Hill residents and two grandchildren participate in building the rain garden," said Spring Hill resident Marti Jackson, who helped manage the project.  The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m., and will include comments from Mt. Vernon District Supervisor Gerry Hyland and Spring Hill resident Jim Percoco, director of education for the Friends of the National World War II Memorial.
