Public Meeting Set on Proposed Fairfax Connector Service Changes

Discussions will be held regarding proposed service changes to 16 Fairfax Connector routes to be implemented in the winter of 2017.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA – In order to enhance customer experience through increased on-time performance, improved service reliability and reduced crowding, service changes are proposed to 16 Fairfax Connector routes for Winter 2017 implementation. Routes included in the proposal are 301, 305, 321, 322, 333, 334, 393, 394, 395, 401, 402, 461, 466, 599, 640, 642, and 644.

A public meeting to review the proposed changes and to solicit feedback from the public will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016, 6-8 p.m., at the cafeteria of the Laurel Hill Elementary School, 8390 Laurel Crest Drive, Lorton. The meeting location is served by Fairfax Connector routes 305, 371 and 373. Public comment on the proposed changes will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016.

Proposed Changes by Route

Routes 301, 334, 401, 402, 461, 466, 599, 640, 642 and 644

  • Minor schedule adjustments to reflect traffic conditions.

Route 305 - Newington Forest – Silverbrook Road

  • Discontinue service between the intersection of Silverbrook and Southrun, and Lorton VRE.
  • Alternative service available via routes 371 and 373.

Routes 321, 322 – Greater Springfield Circulator

· Improve on-time performance by eliminating Manchester Lakes and Bland Street stops, and expand service into the late evening hours (until 11:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and to 11 p.m. on Sunday.)

· All existing and proposed trips originating after 8 p.m. on weekdays and 6 p.m. on weekends will bypass the Industrial Road and Commercial Drive area where there is no demand for service during these times.

Routes 333, 340, 341 – Patriot Ridge – Saratoga

· Discontinue Route 333, and establish Route 340 (Patriot Ridge – Saratoga) and Route 341 (Boston Boulevard – Saratoga).

· **Proposed route map: 340/341**

· Maintain AM and PM rush-hour connections at the Franconia-Springfield VRE.

· On Saturdays, the time between buses will be approximately 30 minutes.

Routes 371, 372, 373 – Lorton - Springfield

· Discontinue service into Patriot Ridge to provide more direct connection between Lorton and Springfield. Alternate service to Patriot Ridge will be provided by Route 340.

· Discontinue service into Boston Boulevard to provide more direct connection between Lorton and Springfield. Alternate service to Patriot Ridge will be provided by Route 341.

· Increase rush-hour service frequency.

Routes 393, 394, 395 – Springfield - Pentagon

  • Add three AM and three PM rush-hour trips to Route 395 to address crowding issues.
  • Minor schedule adjustments on all three routes to avoid stop conflicts at the Pentagon.
