It’s Wednesday, Aug. 7. Here are five things you need to know. Tell us what we need to know on the Patch message board!

1.. Are you an educator (or know one) and want to know all about founding father George Mason? You're in luck. Today is "Teachers Day Out" at Gunston Hall plantation. The all day affair begins at 8:30 p.m. and lasts until 5:30 p.m., and is open to all teachers for re-certification points. The $25 fee covers materials, a continental breakfast and lunch. Registration is required.

2. You Said It: “Its like little landfills in strip malls.” A reader on the donation boxes seen in the parking lots of many shopping centers. She is looking forward to a new Goodwill store in Woodbridge. Do you donate in donation boxes or at Goodwill stores? Tell us in the comments.
