Manassas Precincts Prefer Republican Nominee Clancy, Other Democratic Candidates

MANASSAS, VA — Tuesday's Republican and Democratic primaries determined nominees for contested congressional elections in addition to Democratic nominees for three Manassas City Council seats.

The 10th congressional district race to determine a successor for retiring Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-Loudoun) led to a crowded field of primary candidates — 12 Democratic and four Republican candidates. According to unofficial results, the projected primary winners were Democrat Suhas Subramanyam and Republican Mike Clancy.

Clancy was the top candidate in all six City of Manassas precincts. In the Democratic primary, Subramanyam, a state senator, was not the top voter-getter in the six city precincts.

Overall, 26.32 percent of votes from the City of Manassas went to Del. Dan Helmer. Del. Michelle Maldonado (D-Manassas), who represents Manassas in the Virginia House of Delegates, received the second most votes in the city. Maldonado got the most votes in four precincts, and Helmer got the most votes in two precincts.

In the Republican primary, Clancy got 60.81 percent of votes, followed by 22.53 percent for Aliscia Andrews.
