Police Looking For Gunman In Manassas Shooting At Middle School

Two men are being treated at a hospital following a shooting at athletic fields at Benton Middle School in Manassas.

MANASSAS, VA — Prince William County police are searching for a gunman who shot two people at a community athletic event Sunday morning at Benton Middle School in Manassas.

The shooting occurred around 10:15 a.m. at athletic fields at the school, which is located on Hoadly Road near Highway 234.

Two men are receiving treatment at hospitals for gunshot wounds, though authorities didn't specify their condition. Police previously reported three people were shot. The scene was "very active" when police arrived and initial information was determined to be incorrect, a Prince William County police spokesperson confirmed to Patch.

Police are looking for a suspect described as a Black man of medium complexion who is between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-10 with a thin build, authorities said.

Prince William County Schools officials are aware of the shooting, which the district says occurred during a community use event, according to a post from the school district's Twitter account.
