PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — Prince William County Commonwealth's Attorney Amy Ashworth is hoping to be reelected as voters head to the polls on Election Day. Ashworth is facing a challenge from local attorney Matt Lowery.

Ashworth, a Democrat, says she deserves reelection for her work expanding the prosecutor's office in recent years. Lowery claims that Ashworth's political ambitions and policies have led to an increase in crime.

"The greatest failure of the incumbent has been her intentional destruction of a well-functioning criminal justice system in Greater Prince William County, which has been compounded by a failure to acknowledge or adjust to the skyrocketing crime that has resulted, in part, because of the failed policies of the C.A.," Lowery said in a Patch questionnaire.

In her questionnaire, Ashworth noted that Lowery had worked in the prosecutor's office in the past and failed to enact any meaningful change.

"I have hired attorneys and staff that speak eight different languages and that look like the community we represent. I have put women in leadership roles like never before and actually pay them the same as men, which had not happened previously," Ashworth said. "My opponent worked in the same office and did nothing to improve or change the status quo and now wants us to return to the ways of the past."
