Every seat on the Board of Supervisors was up for election this year, including the at-large chair.

"I am deeply humbled by the trust that Prince William County residents have put in me and my campaign for Chair of the Board of County Supervisors," Jefferson wrote on Facebook. "This is a historic achievement and one that cannot be taken for granted."

In other supervisor races, incumbents Yesli Vega, Bob Weir, Victor Angry, Kenny Boddye, Andrea Bailey, and Margaret Franklin held early leads, according to unofficial results.

Republican Tom Gordy led Democrat Jim Gehlsen in the race for Jeanine Lawson's former seat, the unofficial results said on Tuesday night.

"Prince William is a diverse county, and we need leaders who understand that this is one of our greatest assets and will ensure that we remain a welcoming place for all," Jefferson said on Tuesday night. "We also need to make sure that our schools are well–funded and well-positioned to compete with neighboring counties and that we work together to better foster safe communities."

Jefferson defeated incumbent at-large chair Ann Wheeler in a Democratic primary in June.

Jefferson and Lawson both opposed data centers in many residential areas. Jefferson said the current board has failed residents due to increases in the cost of living.

"Residents cannot continue to shoulder the tax burden while we’re willing to give huge tax breaks to data centers compared to our closest neighboring counties," Jefferson said. A data center tax rate that puts us in line with neighboring jurisdictions will allow us to rely less on property and meals taxes and invest in public safety, public education, and affordable housing, and intervention programs for our at-risk youth and young adults."

Lawson did not respond to Patch's questionnaire.

On Tuesday, one voter outside a Woodbridge precinct told Patch they were supporting incumbents in the area. The voter, who asked not to be named, said current board members should be able to continue pursuing projects in areas like Potomac Shores.
