Bond Denied For Husband Charged In Missing Wife Mamta Kafle Bhatt Case

MANASSAS PARK, VA — A judge denied bond for Naresh Bhatt, the husband charged in the disappearance of his wife, Mamta Kafle Bhatt. The mom of a 1-year-old has been missing since July 31 and is presumed dead after investigators found blood in the couple's home.

Naresh Bhatt's bond was decided Monday in Prince William County court, WUSA9 and other media outlets reported. Naresh Bhatt, who has been charged with concealment of a dead body, was deemed a "flight risk" and dangerous to the community.

Manassas Park Police and Commonwealth's Attorney Amy Ashworth had announced the charge against Naresh Bhatt on Aug. 22 and said additional charges may result from the investigation.

During an arraignment on Friday, evidence presented in court painted a gruesome picture in the missing Mamta Kafle Bhatt case. Authorities found dried pools of blood and evidence of someone being dragged across the floor inside the Bhatt home in Manassas Park.

Mamta Kafle Bhatt, 28, a registered nurse, had last been seen at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center where she worked, on July 27. Her friend, Nadia Navarro, heard from her on July 28. Police did a welfare check on Aug. 2, but Naresh Bhatt declined to report his wife as missing.

He reported her as a missing person on Aug. 5 and claimed to have last seen her on July 31. Manassas Park Police said the husband ultimately stopped cooperating with the investigation into his wife's whereabouts.

According to Inside Nova, investigators claim Naresh Bhatt bought three knives on July 30 and may have killed her around that day. The next day, surveillance footage at a Walmart in Loudoun County showed him purchasing cleaning supplies.

Mamta Kafle Bhatt's cell phone location was last recorded in Loudoun County.

Investigators found signs of Naresh Bhatt intending to flee — a packed house, a recently sold Tesla and attempt to sell the Manassas Park home. The couple's 1-year-old daughter was with Naresh Bhatt up until his Aug. 22 arrest, when social services took custody of the child. A GoFundMe account was set up to support the 1-year-old and help Mamta's mother travel from Nepal.

On Saturday, hundreds gathered in Signal Hill Park to honor the missing Mamta Kafle Bhatt, WTOP reported.
