Mamta Kafle Bhatt: Husband Requests Bond As He Awaits Trial
Attorneys for Naresh Bhatt criticized the Manassas Park police's handling of the case involving the missing mother and wife, a report said.

MANASSAS PARK, VA — The husband of missing Manassas Park mom Mamta Kafle Bhatt will ask to be released from jail while awaiting trial in connection with her disappearance, according to a report.
In a motion filed in court this week, defense attorneys for Naresh Bhatt claimed Manassas Park police mishandled the original search of the home he shared with Kafle Bhatt, who was last seen on July 31, InsideNoVA reported. The bond hearing is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Friday.
In the motion, attorneys claim Manassas Park police investigators made false statements to obtain the arrest warrant against him, the report said. Attorneys also claim police spread misinformation about Bhatt not wanting to report his wife missing.

Bhatt, 37, was arrested on Aug. 22 and charged with concealing a dead body following an hours-long search of their Manassas Park home.
According to a previous InsideNoVA report, prosecutors said blood was found in the couple's bedroom and it appeared that someone may have been "dragged" across the floor. Prosecutors also presented evidence showing Bhatt purchased three knives on July 30, two of which were not found when the home was searched.
He was also seen on camera buying cleaning supplies at a Loudoun County Walmart on July 31, the report said.
Additionally, authorities found a packed suitcase in the home and Bhatt reportedly sold his Tesla and attempted to sell his house in recent weeks, InsideNoVA reported.
A judge previously denied bond for Bhatt last month, deeming him a "flight risk" and danger to the community.
Bhatt is set to stand trial beginning Dec. 9.
Kafle Bhatt is presumed dead, police said, and authorities have since searched for her remains at several locations.
Police said they have continued to receive tips regarding the case and are seeking people with information who have not been interviewed or contacted by detectives already. Manassas Park police can be reached by phone at 703-361-1136.
