Manassas Park Builds One-Lane Access Road After Sinkhole Forms
Heavy rainfall caused a section of a street in Manassas Park to collapse early Wednesday morning, stranding several hundred people.

MANASSAS PARK, VA — Heavy rainfall caused a section of a street in Manassas Park to collapse early Wednesday morning, stranding several hundred people who live in the Moseby Ridge neighborhood.
At around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, a section of Moseby Drive crossing over a stream collapsed. The sinkhole did not cause any injuries, but it damaged several vehicles, according to officials.
By about 2 p.m., work crews had created a temporary one-lane access road for residents. The temporary roadway connects Moseby Court with Stonewall Road, which runs adjacent to Stonewall Park. Traffic can travel in both directions, but only one car can use the bypass at a time.

"A temporary access road has been installed from Moseby Court into Stonewall Park. This road can be used by residents to enter and exit the community," the City of Manassas Park Police Department said in a statement.
Moseby Ridge is home to about 400 residents who live in townhouses and condominiums. The neighborhood was completely cut off when the sinkhole formed on Moseby Drive near Moseby Court at the entrance to the community.

One parked car was swept away along the creek and a half-dozen other vehicles were damaged by floodwaters, according to the Prince William Times.
The City of Manassas Park had known that the area underneath Moseby Drive needed to be repaired. The $1.5 million project had been funded and designed, but the project had been on hold due to the difficulty of finding a route for Moseby Ridge residents to access the neighborhood during construction, the Prince William Times reported Wednesday.
