MANASSAS PARK, VA — Prosecutors on Friday described finding dried pools of blood inside the home of Mamta Kafle, whose husband is facing charges in connection with her disappearance earlier this month.

Naresh Bhatt, 37, was arraigned Friday and charged with concealing a dead body weeks after his 28-year-old wife was reported missing, according to police. Kafle was last seen on July 31, and police arrested her husband Thursday following an hours-long search of their Manassas Park home.

According to an InsideNoVA report, prosecutors said blood was found in the couple's bedroom and it appeared that someone may have been "dragged" across the floor. Prosecutors also presented evidence showing Bhatt purchased three knives on July 30, two of which were not found when the home was searched.

On Aug. 2, police went to Kafle's home for a welfare check and spoke with her husband, who at the time did not want to report her missing, authorities said. She had last been seen by her husband two days earlier, according to police.

Friends and family said Kafle, a nurse, would not leave her 11-month-old baby behind, the Washington Post reported.

On Aug. 5, Kafle's husband contacted police and reported her missing.

In the following days, police determined Kafle had not contacted her friends, family or employer, UVA Health Prince William Medical Center. As a result, authorities elevated her missing person status to critical.

Kafle has not yet been located, police said Thursday. Following Bhatt's arrest, the couple's daughter was placed in the care of the Department of Human Services.

Kafle is described as 5 feet tall and 132 pounds. She has black hair and dark brown eyes.
