The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently proclaimed Oct. 3 through Oct. 9 as Fire Prevention Week. This year’s theme is “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety” which reminds people that it is important to learn the different sounds of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Keeping smoke alarms in working order cuts the risk of dying in half. Working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms serve as part of a plan that can save lives.

County residents should make sure that their alarms meet the needs of all family members, including those with physical and sensory disabilities. Everyone in the family should recognize the different alarm sounds and know how to respond.

The proclamation stated that the board “is committed to ensuring the safety and security of those living in and visiting our county while recognizing the value of fire prevention education for all by participating in fire prevention week annually.”
