2 Killed, 6 Hospitalized In Christmas Night Crash On I-495: VA State Police

A pickup truck and minivan collided Christmas night on the eastbound lanes of I-495 near the I-66 interchange, authorities say.

TYSONS, VA — Two people were killed and another six injured in a Christmas night crash on eastbound Interstate 495 near the Interstate 66 interchange in Fairfax County, according to authorities.

Virginia State Police troopers were called to the scene a little after 10:30 p.m. by a witness who reported a Toyota Sienna Minivan with heavy rear-end damage in the eastbound Express Lanes of the Capital Beltway, according to police.

The minivan's six occupants were taken to a nearby hospital and two of the passengers, a 75-year old woman and a 15-year old juvenile, later died from their injuries, according to VSP.

in the main lanes of I-495 near where Sienna was located, police found a damaged Dodge Ram pickup truck. Both of the truck's injured occupants were taken to the hospital for treatment, according to VSP.

Despite the minivan being found in the Express Lanes, investigators believe that the two vehicles collided in the main lanes of Capital Beltway, police say.
