Cirque du Soleil's Annual Tysons Shows May Return Through 2030: County

TYSONS, VA — A new request by a developer would ensure that Cirque du Soleil will continue to perform annually in Tysons through 2030.

Fairfax County’s Zoning Evaluation Review Department recently received a special permit amendment application filed collectively by five limited liability companies associated with Tysons II developer Lerner Enterprises — Tysons II Land Company, L.L.C., TYF Development Company, LLC, TYH Development, Company, LLC, TYC Development Company, LLC and TYD Development Company, LLLP.

The county had previously granted the applicant a special permit to use 8025 Galleria Drive in McLean as a temporary location for Cirque du Soleil performances between July 1 through October 2024. The permit allowed for the construction of temporary structures at the property adjacent to the Tysons Corner Metro station, as well as parking on other nearby parcels.

“The currently approved Special Permit is intended to accommodate the fact that while specific start and end dates will vary, performances will be held within the period between July 1 and October 31 and remain consistent with respect to the type of operation, hours of operation, number of performances per day, number of proposed patrons and number of employees," the application says.

The application asks the county to extend the length of the special permit, allowing annual performances by Cirque du Soleil between July 1 and Oct. 31, through 2030. The application does not request any change to the type of structure that would be built for those performances.

The application is still under review by county staff, but a hearing has been scheduled with the Board of Zoning Appeals on March 19, 2025.
