NoVa Ballet Academy To Perform 'Don Quixote' In June

TYSONS, VA — On Saturday, June 14, 6:30pm, Artists in Motion dba Alchemy Ballet will present the beloved and timeless classic DON QUIXOTE on the magnificent main stage theater at Capital One Hall, Tysons, Virginia.
With a cast of more than 40 Alchemy dancers ages 5-20, plus special guests from other area studios and companies--including Ariel Martinez from the prestigious Washington Ballet–Don Quixote is sure to delight audiences of all ages.

Brimming with Spanish flair, virtuosic choreography, and comedic charm, Don Quixote follows the fanciful misadventures of the eccentric knight and his loyal companion Sancho Panza. As they chase dreams of heroism and romance, the stage comes alive with sweeping group scenes, electrifying solos, and vibrant characters.
Internationally renowned and award-winning dancer-director-choreographer Luis Serrano from Cuba directs Alchemy Ballet’s production of Don Quixote–which he directed to great acclaim in 2020 with Ballet Monterrey of Mexico. From Cuba, Serrano began his career at the National Ballet of Cuba and went on to Principal Dancer with the Miami City Ballet, performing such distinguished roles as Don Quixote, Blue Bird, Paquita, Coppelia. He received numerous awards and top honors at many international ballet competitions.

As a special bonus attraction before the curtain rises and during intermission will be live Flamenco music and dance will be performed by legendary guitarist Torcuato Zamora and renowned dancers Estela Velez and Daniel Paredez from the award winning Furia Flamenca Dance Company.

ABOUT ARTISTS IN MOTION (dba Alchemy Ballet)
Founded in 2022 and based in Herndon, Virginia, Artists in Motion (AIM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to providing dancers of all ages and abilities with meaningful opportunities to engage in the creation of world-class, cross-cultural, and interdisciplinary performances. Through innovative productions and inclusive outreach programs, AIM reaches diverse audiences and fosters connection, understanding, and compassion through the transformative power of the arts.
Some noteworthy milestones for AIM/Alchemy Ballet in its first three years include original choreography by Adrienne Canterna to “Killing Me Softly” c/o Roberta Flack who attended the premiere
performance in June 2023 via Zoom, and Ramón Sánchez’s “Meditations for Moses” by Charles Mingus. Alchemy’s “Nutcracker Reimagined” productions 2022-2024 have included a Bluegrass, Mariachi, and Celtic twist, along with a sword dance, Hikari Miller as the Sugar Plum fairy dancing to the electronic music of “Black Violin,” and percussive dance. Another highlight was the program “From Minkus to Mingus” that featured the collaboration between Luis Serrano and urban dancer Carlos Garay Gonzalez from Mexico in a piece titled “Mingus Moves: Ballet Meets Urban” to the music of Charles Mingus. Another highlight was the November 2024 “Gala Americana” production that featured the knock-your-socks-off “Rock ‘n Roll” piece choreographed by Jenna Lee to an Elvis Presley medley, as well as the premiere of “The Phil Wiggins Suite” choreographed by and performed with Fredrick Davis, formerly with Dance Theatre of Harlem, to a solo harmonica piece by the late Phil Wiggins, legendary blues player.
With an eye to celebrating diverse cultures and traditions of music and dance, Alchemy performances have featured live music by award-winning recording artists including Seán Heely and Abbie Palmer, Chao Tian, Lynn Veroneau and Ken Avis, Munit Mesfin from Ethiopia, Arco y Aire, Gerdan from Ukraine, among many others. Guest dancers include Leona Takada, Dashdoj Natsagdori, Mauricio Stengel, Nasrullah Abdur-Rahman, Ariel Martinez, percussive dancers Baakari Wilder and Agi Kovacs, Urban Artistry, El Grupo Folklórico, Kalanidhi Indian dance company.
Thanks to our extraordinary teachers and dancers, Alchemy has already brought home multiple awards from the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) international dance competitions including YAGP's prestigious "Outstanding School" award.
Artists in Motion/Alchemy is excited to announce Lorraine Audeoud Spiegler as its new Artistic Director. Lorraine brings a remarkable blend of artistic vision, pedagogical expertise, and a lifelong dedication to cultivating healthy, expressive dancers. Her approach combines rigorous training with a deep respect for each individual's unique potential, creating an environment where every dancer can thrive.
Lorraine Spiegler also joins Alchemy Ballet’s acclaimed teaching faculty that includes Emily Abrom, Kirill Kruhlov, Pavlo Yevtushenko, as well as Elena Ovchinnikova from Washington Ballet who works with Alchemy’s trainees—ensuring the highest level of teaching and commitment to a holistic approach in supporting individual dancers’ pursuits, ages 4 to 20.
AIM/Alchemy Ballet gratefully acknowledges Marianna Rozanova for her contributions to the success of the nonprofit dance studio during its first three formative years.
For the third year in a row, Alchemy Ballet will conduct a six-week ballet-centered summer intensive program, providing the highest quality training to students by our current Alchemy instructors as well as special guest instructors Ilya Kozadayev, Daniela Fabelo, Zhanna Dubrovskaya, and Roland Culler.
