Exceptional McLean Teens Invited To Apply For Teen Character Awards
The Teen Character Awards recognize teens in McLean who demonstrated exceptional ethical and compassionate character over the past year.
MCLEAN, VA — The McLean Citizens Association is sponsoring its Teen Character Awards to recognize teens who demonstrated exceptional ethical and compassionate character over the past year.
The awards will consist of a certificate, which will be presented on the outdoor stage at McLean Day at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 20.
Teens who have, on their own and without compensation or formal recognition, cared for elderly relatives or younger siblings, or who have helped out in the neighborhood or the D.C. area are good examples of potential nominees.

Teenagers aged 13 to 19 who have demonstrated exemplary behavior from April 2022 through March 2023 are eligible for the award.
The teens should live in an area served by the McLean Citizens Association, which includes McLean ZIP codes 22101 or 22102, the Falls Church ZIP codes 22043 or 22046 located south of Route 7 (not in the City of Falls Church), or neighborhoods within the Great Falls 22066 or Vienna 22182 ZIP codes that feed into McLean or Langley High Schools.

The teenager is eligible for an award based on one or two activities that have been performed in the D.C. area over the past year. Here are the criteria for the activities:
- Occurred on a continuing basis at least 10 times and for not less than 30 hours.
- Are initiated by the teenager, and not initiated by someone else.
- Are voluntary in nature.
- Provide no financial compensation.
- Do not include participation in a performing arts activity.
- Do not involve a religious affiliation.
- Are not school-related.
- Do not constitute an unpaid internship.
- Must contribute significantly to the welfare of a family or community member.
The MCA Education and Youth Committee will review nominations to determine compliance and select the winners from the most deserving candidates.
Nominations must be submitted by email no later than Friday, April 21. The nominations should be sent to e-y_committee@mcleancitizens.org.
