- Fairfax County Police released the names of the two officers involved in a deadly shooting outside of the Tysons Corner Center last Wednesday. According to the department, Sergeant Wesley Shifflett, a seven-year veteran of the department, and James Sadler, an eight-year veteran of the department, both fired their weapons and killed 37-year-old Timothy McCree Johnson. Fairfax police said they are doing an internal investigation, whereas Chief Kevin Davis announced that a Washington, D.C.-based group will review officer-involved shootings dating back to 2021. (ABC 7 News)
- Fairfax County Police is still short nearly 200 police officers in its staffing crisis. Last week, Fairfax County Executive Bryan Hill proposed a new county budget that includes 2 percent pay raises for every county employee, including police officers. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is expected to change the County Executive’s budget on May 2 and is set to finalize the budget on May 9. (ABC 7 News)
- McLean made WalletHub's Top 10 U.S. Cities list for best money management skills. In its 2023’s Best & Worst Cities at Money Management report, the personal finance website compared more than 2,500 cities based on 10 key indicators of money-management skills. Data included median credit score, the average number of late payments, and mortgage debt-to-income ratio. McLean, Va. scored no. 9. (Augusta Free Press)
