Fatal Crash in Great Falls: Police Release New Details

Police are investigating a fatal crash that took place Wednesday afternoon on Riverbend Road.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- An adult male was killed in a car crash Wednesday afternoon after his car struck a tree in the 300 block of Riverbend Road in Great Falls, according to Fairfax County Police.

Officers, along with Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department personnel, located the crash shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday and found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames, according to police.

One adult male had apparently been ejected and was found under the vehicle, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The crash shut down Riverbend Road in both directions for hours just before the evening rush hour.

Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit were summoned to investigate the crash. Information will be updated by police and fire officials as the investigation continues.
