GW Parkway Fully Reopens After Crews Remove Trees Downed By Storm
The George Washington Memorial Parkway will be fully operational, including the reversible lane, for the evening commute on Wednesday.
MCLEAN/ARLINGTON, VA — The entire northern section of the George Washington Memorial Parkway reopened Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. after several days of cleanup from Saturday's severe storm, the National Park Service said Wednesday.
The parkway will be fully operational, including the reversible lane, for the evening commute on Wednesday. Drivers should use caution because the three-lane traffic configuration is still in effect for the north parkway rehabilitation project, the NPS warned.
The northern section was filled with trees knocked over by Saturday afternoon's destructive storm that moved through the region.

On Monday, crews removed as many as 325 trees, resulting in 100 dump-truck and 15 chipper-truck loads, and more than 500 tons of wood and debris, from the George Washington Memorial Parkway and Spout Run Parkway, the NPS said.
"We extend our sincere appreciation to the public for their patience and understanding during this closure period," said Charles Cuvelier, George Washington Memorial Parkway superintendent.
