UPDATE: GW Parkway Northbound Reopened Friday Afternoon: Police
Closure area was north of Spout Run Parkway.
UPDATE: 5 p.m.: U.S. Park Police report that all northbound lanes on the GW Parkway are now open. The traffic backup from the temporary closure is approximately 2.5 miles long, according to authorities.

Activity by police and fire officials has temporarily closed George Washington Parkway northbound, past Spout Run Parkway, according to the U.S. Park Police.

The northbound Parkway is expected to be closed for 30 minutes to an hour, police announced shortly before 4 p.m. Friday, due to police-related activities at a nearby overlook on the Parkway.
Northbound traffic is expected to be diverted to Spout Run Parkway.
