Here are the top three stories in McLean today:

  1. The 2023 "I Love McLean Celebration" is coming up! The McLean Citizens Association is sponsoring the 2023 event that honors firefighters and police officers on Mar. 11. Held at the Community Hall at the McLean Community Center, attendees will enjoy light refreshments at the free event. It’s a fun event for the whole family: Arts and crafts activities will be available for children. (McLean Patch)
  2. An Army office in McLean is making headlines for its new projects. The Program Executive Office for Command, Control and Communications-Tactical is tinkering with a combination of armored vehicles and advanced communications gear. PEO C3T has an increased focus on this to prepare for larger, more-dispersed fights with heftier formations and ordnance and is keeping 15,000-foot soldiers and firepower in mind. (C4isr.net)
  3. Delegate Rip Sullivan is seeking re-election to the 6th district following Murthy’s retirement. Both Sullivan and Del. Kathleen Murphy live in the same district after the newly drawn 6th House district. Del. Murphy, however, recently announced she will not seek re-election so she can focus on caring for her grandchildren. (McLean Patch)

  • After the Fairfax County Police shot and killed a shoplifting suspect in nearby Tysons last week, the county’s NAACP chapter is calling for an independent investigation into the incident. Officials confirmed that no weapon was found in the wooded area where officers chased and fatally shot suspect Timothy Johnson, a 37-year-old Black man. (Patch)
  • The Tysons Library in nearby Falls Church is hosting its quarterly book and media sale beginning tomorrow, Mar. 2, through Sunday, Mar. 5. The sale will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, and the final day will include a "bag sale" where patrons can purchase a full grocery sack’s worth of items for $10. (Patch)
  • In case you missed it, Fairfax County published highlights from its 2023 Countywide Strategic Plan report last week. Check out the full report on the county's website. (Fairfax County)
