Lane Closings on Beltway, Dulles Access Road, Route 66

Traffic Disruptions Caused by Subway and new Toll Lanes construction

Beltway Lane Closings Overnight
Two lanes of northbound  the Beltway (I-495) will close overnights from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday and from 10:30 p.m. Friday night to 7 a.m. Saturday morning. Drivers should expect significant delays each night.

The closings will allow construction of the aerial bridges that will carry tracks for the Silver Line subway over the Capital Beltway (I-495) at Route 123. Crews are using a large horizontal crane (also known as a truss) to build the bridges over I-495. Traffic cannot travel under active bridge construction for safety reasons.

Motorists are urged to use extreme caution, and pay attention to all signs. All work is weather-dependent and subject to change. Police will be onsite.

Route 66 Lane Closings
Expect daytime and nighttime lane closures on eastbound and westbound Interstate 66, particularly in the vicinity of Great Falls Street and the Route 267 overpass in McLean.

Dulles Airport Access Road
Please remain alert for daytime lane closures on both the eastbound and westbound  of the Access Road (this is free one)  throughout the week.  The new Silver Line track is under construction down the middle of the Access Road.

Dulles Toll Road Exit to Route 7 Closed Nights:
The guideway that will carry future Metro tracks between Route 7 and the Dulles Access Road median requires construction of a concrete structure that will straddle two piers over the Access Road.  That means the ramp from the eastbound Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) to westbound Leesburg Pike (Route 7) will be closed overnight as follows:  Tuesday, May 17 - Thursday, May 19, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.; Friday, May 20, from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m.; and Saturday, from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m.

In addition, there will be daytime lane closures of both eastbound and westbound lanes along the Dulles Toll Road through the week.

Eastbound Tysons Boulevard Closures between Galleria Drive and Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) to Continue Next Week:
The eastbound lanes of Tysons Boulevard will be closed near Galleria Drive to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, May 16 through Saturday, May 21, for pier and station work. Follow detour signs.

REMINDER: Flagging Operation on Magarity Road Continues:
Beginning on or about Monday, May 16, the eastbound lane of Magarity Road will be reduced to one lane from Olney Road to the Route 267 overpass.  Dulles Metrorail crews will be restoring the curb line and gutter and installing a new storm drainage pipe.

Magarity Road is a popular thoroughfare for travelers between Route 7 and McLean. This work is related to the project's ongoing construction of a traction power substation on the southeast corner of Magarity and Olney roads. Private entrances and driveways will be accessible at all times. Signage will be installed warning drivers that the flaggers and one-lane traffic are ahead. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution when traveling through this intersection.

Leesburg Pike (Route 7) Lane Closures in Tysons Corner:
Waterline installation continues overnights at Leesburg Pike (Route 7)/Spring Hill Road intersection in Tysons Corner.   Curb and gutter work will also cause overnight lane closures on westbound Leesburg Pike.  Police will be on site to assist in directing traffic during the closures.

Details for all approved roadway activities affected by work on the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project during the week of May 15-21 continues on the following pages.
