MCLEAN, VA — Lidl presented Share of McLean with a donation of more than $1,600 from fundraising activities during the store's grand opening weekend and its youth drawing contest. At the Sept. 22 event, Lidl also awarded the winner of its youth drawing contest with a gift card.

Throughout the entire grand opening weekend — from June 1 to June 5 — Lidl pledged to donate $1 to Share of McLean food pantry for every new myLidl member who signed up and set the new Lidl store as their home store.

Upon opening the McLean store, Lidl partnered with Share to provide food to people in need in the community. Lidl, owned by Arlington-based Lidl US, invested $10 million in the McLean site. The new McLean store, at 1330 Chain Bridge Road, was Lidl’s 34th store in Virginia.

For the drawing contest, the grocery store encouraged children to draw their favorite Lidl products, fruits and vegetables, or what’s in their lunchbox. Voting on the public's favorite drawing took place at the McLean store from Aug. 4 to Aug. 8. For each vote received, Lidl donated $1 to the Share of McLean.

Meanwhile, last Wednesday, Lidl celebrated the opening of its first grocery store in Washington, D.C. The store is located in Skyland Town Center in Southeast D.C. This is the first full-service grocery store to open in D.C.'s Wards 7 or 8 in more than a decade, Lidl said.
