McLean High Grad Pitches Invention on 'Shark Tank'

You go the Kennedy Center. You go to a fancy restaurant. You go to any wedding reception. You check your coat. You get a coat check ticket.

It seems obvious, but McLean High School graduate Derek Pacque thinks the system should be simpler than that.

That's why he's invented a ticketless coat check system called Coat Chex.

"Our patent-pending ticketless technology and secure racking systems work together seamlessly to create simple, convenient, and secure stations for any venue," Pacque's website reports.

In an effort to build the business, Pacque recently pitched the idea for Coat Chex to investors on ABC's "Shark Tank." The episode will air the during the show's season premiere at 8 p.m. Friday.

Never seen the show before? The concept is simple.

According to an ABC press release, "The entrepreneurs who dare to enter the Tank must try to convince the Sharks to part with their own hard-earned cash and give them the funding they desperately need to turn their dreams into million dollar realities. But the Sharks have a goal too -- to get a return on their investment and own a piece of the next big business idea. When the Sharks hear an idea worth sinking their teeth into, they are more than ready to declare war and fight each other for a piece of it."

In an email to Patch, Pacque admitted he was a little nervous about watching himself on TV.

"Each entrepreneur gets about 15 minutes of airtime," he said. "They must have over an hour of film on me... so let’s hope I look smart and confident!"
