McLean Little League Plays First Game at Regional Finals

Southern Regional Finals Underway

 McLean Little League is now at Warner Robbins Little league in Geogia for the Southern Region tournament. Their first game was Thursday against South Carolina. Here's a play-by-play of the game written by the scribes at McLean Little League.  

We faced the South Carolina state champions from North Myrtle Beach. They had swept through their state tournament scoring 47 runs and giving up 0 - including 2 no hitters.

We batted first and came out strong. Allie Clarke led off with a single, followed by a single by Grace Chambers, a double by Bella Norton and a triple by Sabrina Sanchez. Sabrina scored on a wild throw and we took a 4 - 0 lead to the bottom of the first.

Sabrina retired the side in order in both the first and 2nd inning.

In the 3rd inning the North Myrtle Beach team had runners on 1st and 3rd with one out when we picked off the runner from 3rd on a perfectly executed trick play - a throw by Bella to Allie Clarke at short to Zoe Dobson at 3rd. We then retired the last batter on a ground out to 2nd.
 
In the top of the fourth we put the game away with a lead- off double by Lucy Mulligan, a walk to Nicole Wooldridge, a sacrifice by Allie Clarke, a run scoring single by Grace Chambers, A long sacrifice fly by Bella Norton, a double by Sabrina Sanchez, walks to Mariah Zwirb and Zoe Dobson, a single by Annie Ferguson and a triple by Lucy Mulligan.
 
We took a 11 - 0 lead into the bottom of the 4th. Sabrina gave up a lead off single but then closed out the game with three outs and we won by slaughter rule.
 
 For the game Sabrina struck out 5, walked none and gave up 2 hits
 
We had 11 hits, including two each by Grace Chambers, Sabrina Sanchez and Lucy Mulligan.


Saturday we play a very strong Florida team. Right now they are the talk of the tournament. Strong at every position and very good hitters. We are hoping to be able to go blow to blow with them tomorrow.
