McLean Teen Faces Charges for Leaving Puppies in Hot Car: Police

Animal control officers were dispatched to the scene -- a vehicle parked at a shopping center -- Saturday afternoon in Fairfax County.

McLEAN, VA -- Police say a local teen and another teen from Fairfax were charged with misdemeanor cruelty to animals after they left puppies in a vehicle Saturday afternoon at Fair Oaks shopping center in Fairfax.

According to Accuweather.com, the high temperature that day was 92 degrees in the area. According to heatkills.org, temperatures inside a car can reach between 130 to 172 degrees when outside temperatures range between 80 to 100 degrees.

Animal control officers were dispatched to the scene, where Sydney Stone, 18, of Fairfax and Christina Allcock, 19, of Mclean were charged with misdemeanor cruelty to animals, according to police. The puppies were transported to a local veterinarian to be treated, police said.
