McLean Winterfest Parade To Honor Youth Sports Leader

MCLEAN, VA – The McLean Revitalization Corporation (MRC) is pleased to announce that longstanding McLean youth sports leader Wayne Loving will be honored as the Grand Marshal of the McLean Winterfest Parade, to be held on Sunday, December 7 in Downtown McLean.

Wayne Loving has been an integral part of McLean Little League for more than 40 years. During that time, he has guided thousands of baseball and softball players, building successful teams, providing youth mentorship with lasting impacts, and strengthening the McLean Little League community.

Mr. Loving has managed many successful Little League baseball teams over the last several decades, including McLean Hardware, Northwestern Mutual, and The Maullers. He also coached softball at the Majors, Seniors, and AAA levels. Wayne has been The Potomac School’s Varsity Softball coach for more than 20 years, where he has built a powerhouse program that attracts many McLean Little League alums who have gone on to play in college.

Some of his greatest contributions to the community happened behind the scenes during his 30 years as a McLean Little League board member and 20 years as League Administrator. For decades, when families had questions about McLean Little League and its operations, Wayne Loving had the answers. He served as a point of continuity in an ever-changing and expanding program. He is dedicated to continually improving player development for both baseball and softball, and supporting the league and local businesses by coordinating sponsorships.

The McLean Winterfest is a cherished McLean tradition, featuring the beloved parade, a dynamic pre-parade showcase, and an exciting new Winterfest Block Party. At the block party, MRC invites the community to join as local businesses, youth organizations, schools, non-profits, elected officials, and many more come together to celebrate the season with multiple food offerings, musical performances, activities for kids, and attractions for participants of all ages, with Santa Claus joining as a special guest.

The parade will take place on Old Chain Bridge Road, from Fleetwood Avenue to Curran Street. Pre-parade entertainment, featuring local dance groups, will be presented at the Langley Shopping Center and will begin at 2:30pm. The parade itself will begin at 3:30pm, followed by the Block Party at 5:00pm.

Parade visitors will be offered opportunities for special Winterfest promotions at several of the 53 restaurants in Downtown McLean. In addition, spectators can enter a free raffle drawing for a variety of prizes from McLean area restaurants and retailers.

McLean Winterfest is presented by the McLean Revitalization Corporation (MRC), a non-profit organization working to create a vibrant, pedestrian-oriented Downtown McLean. MRC’s mission is to be a catalyst and advocate for collaboration between businesses, property owners, Fairfax County government, and community members to drive initiatives to enhance Downtown McLean.
