At the start of July, Reid assumed the role of superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools, replacing Scott Brabrand. After Brabrand announced he would leave the position at the end of the 2021-2022 school year, the Fairfax County School Board conducted a national search.
Reid, formerly superintendent of the Northshore School District in Washington state since 2016, was chosen as the final candidate and approved by a 9-3 School Board vote.
In remarks during her oath of office, Reid noted Fairfax County Public Schools has a reputation for excellence, drawing families from around the world. FCPS is Virginia's largest school district with a student body of about 180,000 and nearly 200 schools, and it's one of the most diverse districts in the state as well.
