Newt Gingrich Travels to Indiana Wednesday to Meet with Trump Family: NBC

Former House speaker is on short list of people being considered as running mate for presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

McLEAN, VA -- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich flew to Indiana Wednesday to meet with the Trump family in another step in the vetting process for a running mate for presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald J. Trump, MSNBC reported Wednesday morning.

The McLean resident is one of three people being considered by Trump for the vice president job, according to several media reports. The Trump family is meeting with Gingrich as well as New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, MSNBC's Kelly O'Donnell reported.

Another sign that Gingrich is serious about wanting the job: FOX News has suspended their relationship with the former Speaker. "Fox News Channel has mutually agreed to suspend its contributor agreement with Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich effective immediately," the network announced Tuesday afternoon.

"Due to the intense media speculation about Gingrich's potential selection as Donald Trump's vice presidential candidate, we felt it best to halt his contributor role on the network to avoid all conflicts of interest that may arise," executive vice president for news Jay Wallace said.

The Trump campaign announced it will unveil Trump's VP choice Friday in New York. The Republican National Convention begins Monday, July 18 in Cleveland.
