Overnight 30-Minute Traffic Stoppages Planned On I-495 In Fairfax Co.
Motorists can expect stoppages of up to 30 minutes on both sides of the Beltway at Georgetown Pike in McLean starting Wednesday night.
MCLEAN, VA — Motorists can expect periodic stoppages of up to 30 minutes on both sides of the Beltway at Georgetown Pike in McLean starting Wednesday night, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Stoppages on the inner and outer loops of Interstate 495 will occur between midnight and 5 a.m. from Wednesday through Saturday. Following each stoppage, one lane will reopen to clear traffic in each direction before the next stoppage is implemented, VDOT said.
The stoppages are needed for construction crews to conduct utility relocation work near the Georgetown Pike interchange.

This work is part of the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension project to extend the existing 495 Express Lanes from the Dulles Corridor interchange to the George Washington Memorial Parkway near the American Legion Bridge.

VDOT will postpone the work to the following night if there is inclement weather. Motorists should consider taking an alternate route during the work, VDOT said, although the options are limited to the George Washington Memorial Parkway if motorists are heading across to Maryland or returning to Virginia over the American Legion Bridge.
The National Park Service has implemented new traffic patterns on the George Washington Memorial Parkway between I-495 and Route 123 as part of its $161 million North Parkway Rehabilitation Project.
